Ausone is frightfully difficult to comprehend, whether it is 6 months or 25 years of age. The 1994 is a ripe, surprisingly rich, flattering style of Ausone that is vaguely reminiscent of the wonderful 1983. The color is a healthy ruby/purple and the nose jumps from the glass, offering up gobs of floral, sweet cassis, and mineral scents. Medium-bodied, this wine relies on finesse, elegance, and delicacy rather than power and body. This stylish, concentrated, well-balanced, harmonious wine should age gracefully for 30 years.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 17/20 points.
