Glen Grant

Bien que Glen Grant soit l'une des nombreuses distilleries qui s'attardent dans l'ombre de ses concurrentes de premier plan comme Bowmore, la distillerie Glen Grant est classée dans le top cinq des distilleries les plus productrices d'Ecosse. Parmi les principaux produits de la distillerie figurent le Glen Grant 10 ans d'âge et le Glen Grant 12 ans d'âge, qui sont les favoris des jeunes dans les boîtes de nuit, tandis que le Glen Grant 50 ans d'âge est vraiment un whisky rare dont la plupart des collectionneurs ne peuvent que rêver.

La distillerie Glen Grant a été fondée en 1840 par James et John Grant, deux frères qui ont appris le métier de distillateur pendant leur emploi à la distillerie Aberlour. Inspirés par cette expérience, les frères Grant demandèrent une licence dans l'espoir de créer leur propre distillerie. Le nom de la distillerie fut facilement choisi en ajoutant "Glen" à leur nom de famille. Ainsi, la Glen Grant Distillery est la seule distillerie à porter le nom de ses fondateurs. Glen Grant a été la toute première distillerie à mettre en bouteille de manière indépendante ses propres single malts, et probablement la première distillerie à être connectée au réseau électrique.

En 1953, Glen Grant a fusionné avec la société mère de The Glenlivet Distillery pour former "Glenlivet & Glen Grant Distilleries Ltd", qui à son tour a fusionné avec Longmorn-Glenlivet Ltd pour former la nouvelle société "The Glenlivet Distillers" en 1972. Les années suivantes, Glen Grant a changé de propriétaire pour passer à Seagram, Diageo et Pernod Ricard jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit finalement rachetée en 2006 par son propriétaire actuel, le groupe Campari, ce qui a permis de rompre définitivement le lien avec The Glenlivet.
