The 2017 Aconcagua Costa "Las Pizarras" Syrah is a new red from the slate soils in Aconcagua Costa, from a cooler zone of the valley. It has moderate alcohol, more freshness and notes of raspberry leaf, a touch of beef blood and iron and something floral and refined, quite elegant and complex. This is a more Rhône-ish style, developing those aromas of smoked bacon, quite aerial, floral and really attractive with intense fruit. It's beautifully textured, with a dry sensation that provides grip, and there's no sweetness whatsoever; it's serious, balanced, long and elegant. The élevage lasted 16 months and was mostly in oval Stockinger 2,500-liter oak foudres, with some 35% of the volume in barrique. The aging was quite respectful of the wine, which is more delicate than powerful, with 13% alcohol and good freshness. 5,310 bottles and 20 magnums were filled in September 2018.
This is a new syrah and delivers extreme perfumes of flowers and sliced meat with dried strawberries. Full to medium body. Very soft and silky tannins. Savory. Polished and caressing. Delicious, savory finish. Drink or hold. 500 cases made.
