Robert Parker (93)

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a barrel sample composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and is to be aged for 20 months in French oak, 80% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sings of crème de cassis, baked black cherries, mulberries and preserved plums with fragrant earth, unsmoked cigars and cedar chest nuances. Full-bodied, muscular and laden with baked black fruits accented by lovely earthy sparks, it has a good, long finish. 1,412 cases are to be made.

James Suckling (95)

A dense, layered red with a solid core of fruit and tannins. Blue fruit. Cedar and mushroom undertones. A full and compact wine. Needs time to soften. One of the best of the vintage.

Outpost's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Howell Mountain) is such a gorgeous wine. Readers will find plenty of power, but the 2017 is also remarkably well balanced for a young Howell Mountain Cabernet. Black cherry, graphite, plum, leather and spice all build into the racy, persistent finish.

Jeb Dunnuck (95)

Coming all from the estate on Howell Mountain and brought up in 80% new oak, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate sports a deep purple hue as well as impressive notes of black fruits, crushed rocks, licorice, and ground herbs. It has some classic Howell Mountain forest notes, is full-bodied, has a polished, elegant texture, and ripe tannins, all making for a terrific Mountain Cabernet to drink over the coming 15+ years or more. This is a smoking good Cabernet.
