Kosta Browne

Kosta Browne winery is located in Sonoma County, California. This is where Dan Kosta and Michael Browne started a small-scale wine production in 1997. Though it started as a small-scale project on the side of their work at a local restaurant, Kosta Browne soon grew into a successful wine company. You will now find Dan and Michael working here full-time.

The best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; that was and still is Kosta Browne’s vision. The vineyards are spread across several regions and AVAs, including Anderson Valley, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands, and Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara. Part of the fruit comes from the vineyards they own, and another part comes from vineyards they lease from several winegrowers. They also source grapes from the iconic Gap's Crown and Keefer Ranch vineyards.

The cellar is managed by winemaker Julien Howsepian. He currently produces three different series: the Appellation, Single Vineyards, and Estate. The release of the Burgundy series is coming soon. Stainless steel or cement tanks and oak barrels are used for fermentation. This varies per year and per cuvée, and the same goes for the use of wood and the duration. The wines of Kosta Browne are very popular, and the production is limited. So, wine lovers have to be quick to get a bottle.

Kosta Browne’s hard work was rewarded in 2011 when their 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was named Wine of The Year by Wine Spectator. Furthermore, the winery has been included in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines list seven times since 2005. A unique achievement in such a short time!

Their best vintages are 2014 and 2019.
