Spectacular is the first Ardbeg to mature in port wine casks. This unusual Ardbeg Day bottling presents a variety of aromas, completely new for Ardbeg. In addition to classically matured Ardbeg from the bourbon cask, port wine casks enhance the Islay malt with magnificent taste and surprising color. Dark chocolate dances across the tongue, mint balances like a tightrope artist, while aromas of candied fruit, incense and smoked pecans float seemingly weightlessly through the ring.
Gillian Macdonald, Ardbeg Master Blender, says: 'Ardbeg Spectacular is truly spectacular, perfect for this year's Ardbeg Day. Bourbon and port wine barrels create a brilliant firework display of aromas that Ardbeggians have never experienced before. Come along and look forward to a brilliant performance. A true gala that you shouldn't miss!'
Color: Sunset Orange
Nose
Unusually perfumed and aromatic, with scents of lavender leading to vetiver and frankincense. Below are leather notes and wax with a rich almond nuttiness. A splash of water reveals nuances of wood smoke and damp peat moss with a hint of menthol and leather bridle.
Taste
Viscous, with a sparkling collection of salty, sweet and savoury flavours. Peat smoke, eucalyptus oil, mint chocolate and toffee mingle with notes of smoked pecans, creosote and tar. Subtle-sweet pear crumble and soft toffee notes lurk in the ring.
Finish
A long, lingering finish of salted caramel and cooling menthol end this spectacular taste circus.
