SMWS Tasting Notes: From the distillery near the round church, this pale gold dram had five years in a refill hoggie, then three in a refill butt. Being youthful, it has more smoke than normal. Neat, the nose finds sweet, sharp and pungent smoke, reminiscent of burning fields, and the flavour is big, like chewing burnt sticks. Water chases nothing away; indeed the nose seems even spikier. However, it is not one-dimensional; it has fruit (lychees), flowers (violets) and meatiness (bacon, spicy sausage). Very rewarding - you could sniff it forever, and the taste profile has immediate impact, then a long train of contemplative pleasure.
