This malt is rated first class by Blendmeisters and is in such demand for blends (especially those from the Johnnie Walker stall) that it is correspondingly rare. The quite large distillery was built in the boom years after 1890 and was temporarily owned by the owners of Talisker. In 1997, we put the malt in a fresh sherry barrel, and how well he got it is shown by the intense color, the heavy pearl formation and the wonderfully thick caramel cream scent. Initially, the nose has little sherry, just a touch of Mosto, the grape juice from which sherry is extracted. But adding water adds a touch of the luxurious Palo Cortado (a dry Oloroso sherry) along with walnut oil and orange chocolate. This also comes out in the taste, both in natural strength and with water, but without dominating. The overall impression is dry and complex, clean and appetizing.
