The 2005 Magdalena 40 Barrels Selection is composed of 90% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 18 months in new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it exhibits a brooding perfume of pain grille, violets, lavender, mineral, spice box, blueberry, and black cherry. This is followed by an opulent wine with tons of flavor, richness, incipient complexity, and enough ripe tannin to evolve for 5-7 years. Drink this lengthy, impressive effort from 2014 to 2030.
Dark and winy up front, with ambitious mocha and loam notes leading the way for fig, raspberry and red plum fruit, followed by a brighter profile on the finish, where spice and licorice hints kick in as fresh acidity provides solid drives from behind. Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.
