The 2006 Clos Nelin is an intriguing blend of Marsanne, Roussanne, Macabeu, Viognier, and Pinot Noir (treated like a white wine). Light gold-colored, it has an aromatic profile like a top flight white Rhone, perhaps a hypothetical blend of Beaucastel Vieilles Vignes and Chave Hermitage Blanc. Notes of mineral, honey, spring flowers, white peach, and pear are followed by a mouth-filling, viscous wine with excellent depth and concentration. This tasty, lengthy effort can be enjoyed now and over the next 6 years.
Melon, guava, vanilla and butterscotch flavors mingle in this rich white, which has a lush, thick texture, yet enough acidity to keep it lively. Finishes dry, with mineral and bitter almond notes.
