Always one of my favorite cuvées from Kistler, the 2020 Chardonnay Laguna Ridge Vineyard has loads of personality and density. Struck match scents give way to white peaches, lime peel, jasmine, spring butter and pie spices, with a singular streak of alluring herbal character. The palate's mouth-coating, expansive texture and concentrated fruit are balanced by tangy acidity and flinty character on the long finish.
Delicious and powerful, with salted buttery pastry notes, a hint of litsea oil, grilled lemon, dried pineapple, fresh Honeycrisp apple and accents of nutmeg and cardamom, plus a drizzle of honey on a full frame, with vibrant acidity weaving in and out.
Aromas of hay, fresh grapefruit and a hint of clove. Medium-to full-bodied with bright acidity, drive and length. Citrus and mineral character. Turns more savory towards the end, but remains fresh and bright throughout. Dense and powerful. A monumental wine with incredible depth and energy. Benchmark. Only in magnum. Hard not to drink now, but this is one that will show its true greatness in six to eight years.
Only produced in magnum, the 2020 Chardonnay Laguna Ridge Vineyard has classic aromatics with the addition of fresh mint and key lime. The palate is more taught with tension and more about its stony mineral texture than mid-palate weight. Long and persistent, this will need 2-4 years in bottle to unfurl and show its full potential, but it will be well worth the wait. Enjoy over the next 15 years.
