This well-made effort offers authentic tastes that reflect both the Aglianico grape and the remarkable grape-growing environment that is Irpinia in Campania. The 2012 Taurasi di Taurasi shows thick concentration with an inky dark color. The bouquet is clean and unburdened by too much winemaking interference. There is a clean and enticing dose of black fruit and dried cherry backed by spice, leather and tarry campfire. Firm tannins hold the wine tightly together. Some 10,000 bottles were produced.
A harmonious red, featuring fine-grained tannins layered with sappy black cherry flavors and oaky hints of spice and mocha. A streak of tarry mineral builds on the chewy, black licorice–laced finish.
