Robert Parker (96)

Chardonnay (96):
The 2023 Las Pizarras Chardonnay represents another benchmark iteration of this bottling. It fermented and aged in 300- and 400-liter barrels, with 12% being new, and it underwent partial malolactic conversion. It opens with a crystal-clear nose of stone fruits, white flowers and citrus zest, enlivened by an oceanic freshness. On the palate, it perfectly balances vibrant energy and textural breadth, culminating in a snappy, energetic and focused finish with impressive length—a definitive example of contemporary Chilean Chardonnay.

Pinot Noir (95):
The 2023 Las Pizarras Pinot Noir opens with a high-toned, expressive nose of cherry blossoms, dried flowers and cured meats with a touch of smoky reduction. The palate is a pleasing combination of broad, silky and refreshing, lined with lively acidity that carries through the tensile, saline and delineated finish. The precision and focus on display across the board make for a benchmark expression of Chilean Pinot Noir. It fermented with a dollop of whole clusters and was aged in 25% 400-liter barrels, 55% of which were new.

Syrah (96):
The 2023 Las Pizarras Syrah stands out as one of Chile's most aromatically exotic and intense examples of Syrah, beginning with an alluring bouquet of black fruits, grilled meats, incense, sandalwood and purple flowers. The palate is exceptionally dense, concentrated and taut, culminating in a lifted, multidimensional finish that strikes a midpoint between rich, savory and refreshing. Similar to my experience with the 2022 iteration of this wine, the nose here continuously evolves, revealing an increasingly floral and perfumed complexity. It fermented with 15% whole clusters and matured for 16 months in 60% French barrels and 40% Austrian foudre.

Vinous (96)

Chardonnay (96):
The 2023 Chardonnay Las Pizarras was fermented entirely in barrel, 12% new, with extended lees-contact and 35% total malolactic fermentation. The 2023 retains the purity that established this cuvée's stature among Chilean coastal Chardonnays but also moderates the austere style to a certain extent. Pure aromas of herbs and green apple emerge, along with orange blossom, hints of papaya and fennel, and a touch of anise. Ginger and beeswax develop with aeration. Moderately rich in the glass, the wine's bright lime flavors contrast with a creamy note on the palate. The profile is notably reductive, with nuances of slate adding tension and a talc-like texture. Delicious.

Pinot Noir (96):
The 2023 Pinot Noir Las Pizarras comes from Quillota, about 12 kilometers from the cold Pacific waters of the Humboldt Current. The 2023 underwent cold maceration before fermenting with 2% whole clusters, followed by 12 months of aging in 400-liter barrels (55% new). Purple in hue, it offers aromas of blood orange peel, pomegranate, a hint of iodine, and rosehip, with delicate reduction adding complexity. The palate is lined with fine, slightly compact tannins and high acidity, lingering with a soft, powdery texture. This is a beautiful coastal wine, finely calibrated between freshness and texture.

Syrah (94):
Coastal Syrah in Chile is still awaiting its emergence on the world stage. The 2023 Syrah Las Pizarras comes from Quillota, just 12 kilometers from the Pacific. Grown on a northwest-facing slope, it achieves a dark varietal profile in this cool climate. It was fermented with 15% whole clusters, and aged for 12 months, half in barrels (40% new) and half in foudres. Deep purple in hue, the 2023 delivers compelling aromas of beetroot, earth and a hint of dried violets. Sleek and suave, the Syrah Laz Pizarras leaves a lingering finish of spice and a subtle nuance of fruit ripeness. A touch of stem character and the wine's signature chalky texture persist on the palate. This is a rich Syrah with a coastal identity.
