The 2018 Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard manages power and elegance, with gunflint notes that flush out to pure roasted almonds, saline, white flowers and apple fruit on the nose. The palate offers intense, savory flavor layers in an elegant, satin-like frame, with dynamic acidity and a long, ethereal finish. This has the flesh and structure to age very well in bottle.
Lifted and perfumed, the 2018 Chardonnay Maresh is a dreamy wine with a cascade of wildflowers, honeysuckle, ginger and Asian pear. It's softly textured yet finessed, nearly weightless. Depths of white pit fruits and zesty mineral tones take on a crunchiness toward the close. It finishes long with a spicy kick yet ultimately fresh, leaving hints of chamomile and apricot to linger.
Maresh is pronounced Marsh locally. This vineyard was originally planted in the 1970s but the Chardonnay – old clones – was planted later. Jory soils. Fred Arterberry was a celebrated Oregon winemaker. Minimal intervention here.
Intense nose. Very fine acidity. Green flavours and very juicy. Very clean. Bone dry and a little mealy. Not quite ready. Lots to chew on! Crystalline.
