The nose is pure and focused, showing aromas of redcurrants, wild raspberries and orange rind. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and acidity, giving notes of cherry, potpourri, struck match and forest floor. Tightly wound with years of aging ahead. Drink or hold.
A mass of cherry-berry fruits, violet and lavender tones introduce the 2022 Pinot Noir Avni. This possesses a lovely energy, with liquid florals and ripe wild berries cascading throughout. Brisk acidity maintains fantastic balance as the 2022 leaves a crunchy staining of minerality and edgy tannins that add youthful tension.
Both the red and white Avni are bottled under diam, which should give restaurants another level of confidence in terms of consistency if the wines have been store halfway decently. The 2022 Pinot Noir Avni offers a fantastic nose out of the gate, with ripe cherries. A joyful wine, it’s floral and pretty, retaining lovely freshness, with a chalky texture and a clean finish. It’s everything I would want in a wine by the glass at a high-end restaurant or on a bottle list. Drink over the next 5-6 years.
