A special bottling, in a very fancy package, to celebrate the 375th anniversary of the company that claims to be port's oldest and had that claim formally recognised by the relevant trade assocations in 1940, which is why they chose this year for their celebratory bottling. It comes from a single 580-litre barrel and is now a bright orange tawny. On the nose there is smoked bacon and coffee. On the palate there is orange peel, walnuts and almost syrupy sweetness with an appetising kick of bitterness on the finish. Overall it manages to be both very rich and yet fresh - still vibrant and fruity with a definite hint of rancio.?A real tingle on the finish - absolutely nothing like vintage port!?
