The oldest of the three bottlings that are now released in the Fauna series. In addition, one of the oldest whiskeys that could still be found in the warehouses of this tropical distillery. Due to the climate in Taiwan and the use of new oak, you immediately expect a taste bomb. And while none of the brilliant nuances of a real Kavalan whisky are lost, this whisky is exactly the flavor bomb you expect, in the best possible way imaginable.
• Nose: rich, deep. Vanilla, praline, waxy and fruity (bitter orange) notes almost jump out of the glass. Later, round scents of exotic fruits and fine spices such as saffron appear.
• Taste: powerful, full of liveliness. Intensely exotic and spicy (ginger). Then the taste continues in softer fruit with banana, juicy melon and red fruit.
• Finish: In the long and full fruity aftertaste, it subtly transitions into the flavors of hazelnut and praline.
Kavalan is Taiwan's number one whisky producer and the only family-owned whisky distillery in Taiwan. Kavalan takes its name from an ancient tribe from Yilan Province, northeast Taiwan, where the distillery is also located. The pure water and fresh air make this part of the subtropical island of Taiwan the ideal environment for whiskey production. With 1.2 million visitors a year, the Kavalan Distillery is the most visited whiskey distillery in the world.
