Deep garnet colored, the 2012 Alte Reben Shiraz offers a gorgeous crème de cassis, floral and herb-scented nose with hints of anise and underbrush. Richly fruited on the full-bodied palate, it has a chewy backbone and nice acid line, finishing on a peppery note. Take note that no 2011 Alte Reben was produced.
A strong, meaty thread to the nose with a rustic edge: it's ripe and plummy with red fruits and lighter tarry, earthy notes. The palate has a succulent, red fruit palate and is juicy and even, while sheets of fresh tannins and berry pip flavors come through on the finish. This will evolve into a very meaty, leathery style.
