The 2001 Sena has an attractive nose with fresh black fruit infused with a touch of oyster shell/brine. There is something of the “sea” about the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, plenty of peppery black fruit and a rather conservative, straight-laced finish. It is quite austere, but nicely balanced with an attractive espresso tinged aftertaste.
A powerful display of dark chocolate, espresso bean, black currant and plum flavors here, with impressive concentration and serious structure. Long, dense finish is chock-full of fruit and toast, while hinting at the refinement to come from cellaring. A noticeable step up in power for this wine. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Carmenère.
