The least expensive offering in Vega Sicilia’s portfolio is the 2000 Valbuena. A considerable crop-thinning (about 40% of the yield was eliminated) resulted in a dark ruby/purple-colored wine offering a big, rich bouquet of creme de cassis, tobacco smoke, earth, herbs, and licorice. This ripe, fleshy, medium to full-bodied, lusty, heady 2000 can be consumed over the next 10-15 years.
Maturing now, this red shows tobacco and mineral notes, with dried cherry and spicy notes and well-integrated, softening tannins. Nicely done in the traditional style.
