Robert Parker (91)

I believe the 1989 Cantemerle is this estate's finest wine since their monumental 1953. The Merlot was picked late, September 14th, then the harvest was stopped to wait for the Cabernet to ripen physiologically. The last Cabernet was brought in on October 9th. This ruby/purple wine has an explosive bouquet of crushed blackberry fruit and violets, an opulent, lush texture bolstered by good alcohol levels and soft tannins. In several tastings of southern Medocs (principally Margaux wines), this was the star of the show. Here is an impressive combination of elegance and power.

Winespectator (95)

This sexy, lush, complex, perfumed Pomerol exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color as well as a knock-out nose of black fruits intermixed with menthol, saddle leather, licorice, and minerals. It is fleshy, silky, and voluptuous in its elegant, feminine style.
