Under the administration of Catherine Pere-Verge, Le Gay has become a serious, super-concentrated, potentially long-lived Pomerol. The backward 2006 reveals complex notes of plums, black cherries, truffles, and chocolate in a big, masculine, full-bodied, virile style that begs for cellaring. This dense, chewy, concentrated effort has firmed up considerably, and appears set for a long life. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025+
This has lots of new wood, with ripe fruit and hints of coffee and dark fruits. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a slightly chewy finish. Needs time. Much better than from barrel
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
