Tasted from bottle, the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Village unwinds in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, fresh pastry, white flowers and green apple, complemented by a hint of youthful struck match. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy but reserved, it's bright and chalky, with an ample core underpinned by a tangy spine of acidity.
Pale lemon and lime, with rather an elegant, classy nose, white fruit behind, excellent texture and good acid balance. The village Chassagne offers a firm finish but with a flourish. Gracious fruit, which is not exaggerated.
Above Cailleret, higher, steep but not on the plateau. Stony and colder than Cailleret because it gets the cold sun of the morning and loses the sun earlier in the afternoon. Six barrels and one new. Tank sample.
Honeyed and golden aroma. Ripe lemon and orange flavours. Broad and needs time to tighten up. Rich and taut at the same time, full flavoured, with lots of matière. Spicy finish, a big wine but starting to tighten up on the finish. (JH)
