From the low-lying Les Souvrees and Les Justice vineyards, the Arlaud’s 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin shows off pure, ripe black raspberry and black cherry fruit in the nose, saturates the palate with these same black fruits but also considerable fine tannin, and finishes in strong, lushly-fruited (yet not exaggeratedly sweet) form, if without the brightness of this year’s Bourgogne. Will a few years in bottle bring more complexity to the surface? Probably, but if you are craving ravishing fruit, enjoy this wine already.
