Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Epenots has one of the superior set of aromatics for this flight with well defined, mineral-driven black cherry and raspberry fruit, just a touch of undergrowth in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, the trademark Pommard backbone and austerity, just a slight bitterness towards the finish, but remaining true to what Pommard ought to be. I suspect this will age with some style and warrant a higher score.
Rich and open-knit, offering cherry, chocolate, carob, sandalwood and green olive aromas and flavors. The tannins are severe now, yet this has enough sweet fruit for balance. Firm finish
