Robert Parker (93)

The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru offers up aromas of spices, ripe cherries, cassis, incense, plums and toasty new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rich and textural, with a firm chassis of structuring tannins poking out behind its succulent core of fruit, with good depth at the core and a long finish. As readers will know, the Clos Vougeot hails from a rented parcel over which Liger-Belair has complete control.

Ten-year lease from 2015 with an organic producer, mid slope. They bring the compost to the vineyard but do not prune.
When I suggest to Monsieur Le Comte Liger-Belair that this wine does not seem part of the Liger-Belair family, he says it’s ‘a half-brother’. Very sweet and vanilla-scented. Smells unrelated. On the palate it has very fine tannins but the whole does not really have the Louis-Michel Liger-Belair feel. Silky and sweet. But lacks the finesse of his other wines. Much more obvious. (JH)

Clear mid crimson with some elegance to the fruit, fresh and stylish, beautiful at first then became a little confused on the palate with a slightly curtailed finish. I suspect other bottles could be better, retaining the initial purity throughout.
