The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin shows excellent suppleness in its round fruit. This is a generous, open style with good balance, even if the wine lacks the sheer excitement of the best selections here. Bright red fruits and flowers inform the open, accessible finish. The Charmes is made from purchased wine.
A ripe, lightly spiced and pure melange of mostly red berry liqueur and earth notes precedes medium-weight flavors that are surprisingly supple and already quite accessible with a delicious, mouth coating and nicely balanced finish. It's clear that this is not a Jadot-vinified wine and while perfectly good, this is not at the same level as the best here.
