Brilliant ruby hue. Cool and decidedly restrained aromas include those of forest floor, spice, herbal tea and layered wild red berries. There is a bit more volume and power to the bigger-bodied, if slightly less mineral-driven, flavors that display excellent drive on the compact and austere finish where a touch of astringency emerges. The astringency may eventually dissipate though I suspect that will always have just a bit of backend edginess. I would add that this is by no means fatal though it will likely mean it would best be enjoyed with an appropriate dish.
One barrel. A rich pink crimson, with rather a lovely full raspberry fruit. Very spicy behind, with white pepper. Proper intensity here, racy and crunchy with some fine ripe fruit behind. Long enough, this has all the charm of the best of the vintage.
