Aromas of oyster shell, green apple, lime zest and white flowers introduce the 2014 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Millésime L’Esprit de 2014, a lovely wine that's medium to full-bodied, with excellent depth and concentration at the core, displaying terrific energy and a long, tangy finish. It was disgorged with four grams per liter dosage. As usual, it's a blend of Le Mesnil, Oger, Avize and Cramant—dominated by Le Mesnil. Like all Péters' wines, it really merits a bit of bottle age, though it's so impeccably balanced it can be appreciated young.
The 2014 Brut Blanc de Blancs L'Esprit is airy, gracious and super-expressive. Another few months in bottle have really helped it come together nicely. Bright, sculpted and beautifully lifted, the 2014 is all class from start to finish, and another example of just how attractive the best wines of 2014 are turning out to be. Although there are other, more important wines in this range, I often gravitate to the Esprit for its compelling combination of quality, personality and relative value. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: October, 2018.
