Year after year, my favorite topped-up (ouillé) Chardonnay comes from a vineyard planted in 1969 that delivered the magical 2016 Les Grands Teppes Vieilles Vignes. It's dry, textured, terrific and mineral, obtained after a very long fermentation that delivered a tasty white with a finish lifted by some faint volatility but without the notes of acetate often found when there is VA. This is very different from the 2015, much sharper and fresher, going back to the style of the 2014. Jean-François Ganevat explained that he does not know how to produce these wines in a faster way and that, for him, they need time, and he was not planning to bottle this in less than six months.
