I was also able to taste a very limited production cuvée, released to celebrate a Japanese film called Les Gouttes de Dieu (or Drops of God) that’s focused on wine. The 2016 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Gouttes De Dieu was bottled only in magnum and was brought up in barrels (some being new). A deep, rich, full-bodied powerhouse, it delivers awesome notes of cassis and darker fruits, garrigue, Provençal spice, and subtle oak. These all carry to a powerful, full-bodied, mouth-filling beauty that oozes Provençal charm. It needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years (or more) and will still being drinking brilliantly at age 30.
