The earthy, peppery 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine du Vieux Lazaret also doles out plenty of ripe cherry fruit. It's a tradition-leaning blend of 67% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 6% other permitted varieties. Full-bodied and softly dusty, it's an easygoing wine that's approachable now but should last for a decade.
Alluring, with flow to the cassis, cherry compote and raspberry coulis flavors, backed by light rooibos tea, tobacco and dried blood orange accents. The silky finish is sneaky long, offering a light sanguine echo.
