The Marchesi Antinori 2019 Chianti Classico Pèppoli shows bright fruit and dried cherry with some nutty tones of toasted hazelnut at the back. This is a famously simple and streamlined wine with mid-weight appeal and good acidity. It is the proverbial Italian pasta wine, whether it be a carbonara or amatriciana. The wine ages in a combination of large Slavonian oak, barrique and stainless steel vat.
A direct, real Chianti Classico with plum and sour-cherry character, as well as some tangy citrus. It’s medium-bodied with lovely fruit and a fresh finish. Just a hint of firmness at the end.
