Ooh, ahh, here's a little nugget of pure gold from the coast of Tuscany. The Ornellaia 2016 Ornus dell'Ornellaia is a pure expression of late-harvest Petit Manseng that shimmers and shines with sunlight and golden luminosity. This is a beautiful little creation, both to look at and of course to drink. The sweetness here is contained overall, showing honey, brown sugar and dried apricot. But the wine also flaunts its Tuscan roots, and that implies an extra dose of sweet succulence and creamy texture. Bright acidity balances out the palate. The mouthfeel is elegant, cleverly showing weight but no heaviness. Fermentation occurs in all new barrique, and no malolactic happens. The wine ages in wood for 12 months followed by another year in bottle. A precious few 3,000 bottles were released in April 2020.
This is a fantastic, young, sweet wine with sliced dried apricot and pineapple. Some spice and nuts. Salty undertone. Medium to full body. Long and delicious. From petit marseng.
