The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio is a subtle wine that allows for a greater sense of depth and complexity once the bottle has been opened and rested for a while. Initially, the bouquet is closed (no surprise here because the wine is so young). I came back to my sample a few hours later and discovered more prominent mineral notes of campfire ash and flint that blended nicely with the tonic and delicate fruit. This wine sneaks up on you but delivers nice surprises in the end. Some 12,000 bottles were produced.
This is fresh and fruity with hints of orange peel. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Drink or hold.
