Robert Parker (93)

The 1935 White Colheita Port, bottled in November 2015, is a field blend of typical white grapes with just 68.5 grams per liter of residual sugar. It actually seems sweeter than that on opening, though. Wonderfully fresh and rather youthful early on, this typically was both superb and vigorous. However, a day or two after the initial taste, it became drier and more brooding, living up to its modest sugar level. It still never seemed really old or austere. Then, it added some notable intensity and power. Overall, its lively demeanor makes it a prime time marvel with a life left to it, but I did have a quibble. The alcohol was a bit too obvious on this on opening. Just for fun, I tried it again over the course of a week. It was a little hot on the finish. This does so much else so well that the heat didn't destroy the wine--in fact, the alcohol would not be so noticeable if this were to be used as a food match for something like cheeses. This does so much so brilliantly that I wanted to like it even more.
