The 2019 Hundsrück Spätburgunder GG opens with a pure, fresh, refined yet intense and concentrated, almost bloody or at least fleshy bouquet of red and black berries as well as crushed stones, iron and graphite. Round and juicy on the silky-textured palate but also still a bit oaky in its tannin expression, this is an intense, rich and powerful but tight and still slightly drying Pinot with ripe and intense fruit and a firm but still slightly brittle finish. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021.
In spite of the subtle red-fruit aromas, this wine has a dark, earthy and smoky core. Breathtaking combination of serious concentration, major fine tannins and lively acidity that lifts the long, very intense finish beautifully.
