Deep garnet-brick in color, the 1995 The Armagh Shiraz presents meat, leather and sweat on the nose with undercurrents of black olives, oolong tea, tree bark and damp loam. The muscular palate is centered on a core of dried mulberry flavors and a solid structure of crisp acid, firm chewy tannins and a long, savory finish.
Ripe and intense, with well-defined blackberry, anise and pepper flavors, hinting at chocolate and eucalyptus on the firm finish. Veers toward tartness, but it has impressive, if eccentric, character.
