The oak feels better integrated in the 2014 El Carretil, perhaps because it was taken out of barrel a little earlier, but they still used 100% new French oak for its upbringing. There is a juicy peachiness here that makes the wine very aromatic and showy. At the same time the glossy fruit seems to coat the chalky tannins and even though you get the sensation of strictness defined by the soils, the overall sensation and balance seems better. The wine feels dynamic and juicy, it moves in your mouth, while the 2013 feel a little more static. I see the 2014 a notch above its 2013 sibling. Some 5,200 bottles.
JS Extremely floral with chalk and bone character undertones. Dark fruits. Full body, tight and chewy with an extravagant mouthfeel. Lovely austerity.
