The medium garnet-colored 1990 Gran Reserva 904 displays considerable amber at its edge. The fragrant, complex aromatics consist of scorched earth, smoke, lead pencil, spice box, and red and black fruits. In the mouth, the wine is round, with no hard edges, medium body, and graceful subtlety as well as delicacy. While there is a lot going on, it is extraordinarily restrained, and does not bash the taster over the head as so many modern day, 'smash-mouth' wines do. Fully mature, it will remain at its peak for another decade.
