The 2018 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru is showing well, wafting from the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries, orange rind, espresso roast and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and textural, this is ripe but succulent, underpinned by lively acids and fine-grained tannins. This is the more open of Rapet's two Corton bottlings and will offer the broader drinking window.
A mentholated top nose is present on the more elegant and ripe aromas of plum, red and black pinot fruit and discreet earth and floral hints. Here too the slightly bigger-bodied flavors possess a refined mouthfeel that carries over to the dusty, serious and youthfully austere finish that is notably more structured. This is a classic Corton because while it's not rustic, it definitely is a 'buy and forget you own it' wine.
