This was tasted as a barrel sample. Deep garnet-purple, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate charges forth with bold black fruit expressions of blackberries, black currants and black plums, slowly revealing hints of dried mint, lavender, tapenade and pencil lead plus a waft of underbrush. Rich, full-bodied and concentrated with a firm line of wonderfully ripe, fine-grained tannins, it has a lovely line of freshness and a very long, very pure finish.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a step up, ranking with the crème de la crème of the vintage and offering notes of blackcurrants, crushed violets, Asian spices, and acacia flowers in its aromas and flavors. With fabulous tannins, full body, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, and a great finish, it needs 4-5 years of bottle age and will keep for 25+ years. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Marciano Estate is another impressive 2017 from Marciano. Sweet red cherry, red plum, tobacco, mint, licorice and spice are nicely pushed forward. Supple and racy with terrific depth and resonance, the 2017 hits all the right notes. In the glass, the 2017 is a bit lighter than most previous vintages, but it has tons of character as well as personality.
