I tasted three Riesling cuvees from Schoffit, all of them outstanding. The 1995 Riesling Rangen de Thann Clos St.-Theobald, while expensive, is a sensational Riesling. The light gold color is followed by measured aromatic quantities of honey, baked apples, and wet stones. On the palate, this is a huge, full-bodied, massively-sized wine. Totally dry, this high impact, layered, super-concentrated wine requires 3-5 years of cellaring, but it should keep for 2 decades. It is packed and stacked (professional jargon for an intense wine) with extraordinary richness, ripeness, and balance. It is a huge Riesling, yet patience is required because this wine is still an infant in terms of development.
