Canon La Gaffeliere has been one of Bordeaux's bright shining stars since the late eighties. The great success this property has enjoyed continues with a sterling effort in 1993. The 1993 boasts a saturated, opaque, plum/purple color, and a knock-out bouquet of jammy blackcurrants, licorice, smoke, and flowers. Full-bodied and highly-extracted, with a sweet, expansive chewiness, this super-concentrated, moderately-tannic wine will drink well young and age gracefully for 15 or more years. This is an outstanding, impressively-endowed 1993.
One of the great young wines we have tasted this year. A stupendous, silky, full-bodied red of great character and depth, deep color and tons of pure fruit. Layered with mineral, mint, blackberry and dried herb flavors. Long finish and well-integrated tannins make it tempting now.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
