A wine of great density, concentration, and intensity, the opaque blue/purple 2000 Pavie Macquin needs considerable aeration, but with decanting the prodigious bouquet of graphite, camphor, blackberry, blueberry, mineral, coffee, and smoky oak finally makes an appearance. Persuasive, expansive, full-bodied, and muscular, this enormously endowed, rich wine looks set for a long life, at least three decades. A terrific effort that rivals the compelling 1998.
Complex aromas of crushed ripe fruit, with mineral and tobacco undertones. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Tight and muscular. Very fine indeed.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
