Cask sample. Rich, golden nose with quite a bit of alcohol – a tad formless. But approachable early. (JR)
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Garenne 1er Cru has a more backward bouquet than the Garenne, though there is a little more nuance and terroir expression here. The palate is well-balanced with a silver bead of acidity and more mineralité than the La Garenne, but there is also more strictness and linearity on the finish. For Puligny diehards.
A discreet application of wood sets off cool aromas of green fruit, crushed spices, acacia and carnation. The sleek, even glossy, and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors possess a fine bead of minerality and very fine length on the moderately dry and youthfully austere finale. This too could use a bit more depth but that should reasonably occur over time.
Fine mid yellow. The bouquet is beguiling, an attractive but not exaggerated ripeness, the steely backbone one hopes for well covered in fruit, and a fine long finish. Excellent aftertaste. Drink from 2030-2038.
