The 2016 Clos Vougeot le Grand Maupertui comes from vines located adjacent to Grands Echézeaux. It has a very detailed bouquet: more black fruit here than red, cold slate-like scents, very well focused and yet tightly wound. The palate is medium-bodied with quite robust tannin at the moment. This is a more masculine, almost saturnine Clos Vougeot that insistently grips the mouth, the mineral element only appearing toward the finish. It will require five or six years in bottle but it will be worth the wait.
