The 2023 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru, from vines planted in 1904, has an inviting nose: raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, touches of cranberry coming through with time and a dash of Provençal herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry and gentle grip, well balanced with a harmonious, lightly spiced finish that lingers tenderly.
- By Neal Martin on November 2024.
A notably ripe nose is comprised by liqueur-like notes of poached plum, black cherry and humus-tinged earth. The rich and solidly concentrated, especially in the context of the vintage, medium-bodied flavors possess good power on balanced, firm and even more compact finale. This too needs better depth so plan on at least a few years of cellaring.
The original planting has reached 120-year-old in 2024. A gorgeous full bright purple colour. A solid plump right of dark fruit, black and red cherries, the tannins are really refined, and the acidity keeps a fresh feel at the finish. Really successful this year.
