The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Village was showing a touch of reduction when I tasted it, which Cyrielle Rousseau told me had only appeared that morning. With coaxing, the wine unfurled in the glass to display notions of dark chocolate, grilled meat, red berries and earthy soil tones. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with juicy acids, chalky tannins and more length and depth than the Clos du Château bottling, even though it was a little compressed by reduction.
