The 2015 Corton Grand Cru comes from vines with eastern orientation and is usually the last to be picked. It has a slightly irony, redcurrant and crushed strawberry-scented bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, candied orange peel opening. There is something here that is a bit too exotic for my liking, and I wonder if it would have been better harvested even just a day earlier? Not bad, though I would prefer to see more breeding and sophistication.
Spice and smoke aromas and flavors frame the wild cherry and berry fruit in this linear, intense red. There is a savage quality here, even to the tannins, which will need some time to be absorbed. The lengthy aftertaste evokes chalk and underbrush notes.
